James Hoffman of the UK becomes World Barista Champion

2nd August 2007
The UK’s James Hoffman surpassed the other finalists to become 2007 World Barista Champion in Tokyo at the beginning of August.
The win is the first for the UK, after Hoffman was a World Barista Championship finalist last year in Berne.
At the Tokyo event, he was also awarded Best Signature Drink for his biscotti- and tobacco-flavoured espresso beverage.
Heather Perry of the US placed second in the hard fought championship, and also received the award for the Best Espresso at this year’s championship.
Third place went to Carl Sara of New Zealand, a veteran WBC participant, while Miyuki Miyamae of the home country, Japan, not only scooped fourth place but also took the prize for the Best Cappuccino.
Finalists Anna Kaeppeli of Switzerland and Silvia Magalhaes of Brazil came fifth and sixth, respectively.
