New marketing body aims at US customers

31st January 2008
A new marketing organisation, the Specialty Coffee Association of Kenya, is to concentrate on developing the American market for the country’s better quality coffees, local reports said at the end of January.
The Kenyan organisation would be complemented by a similar body comprised of importers of Kenyan coffee based in the US, according to the reports.
The US market for Kenyan coffee has virtually doubled since 2005, the reports added, and in 2007 accounted for about 15% of Kenya’s total coffee exports. European markets currently take 70% of exports, with Germany alone accounting for 37%, however.
