Announcing the Cup Tasting and Barista winners

The winners of Belgium's national Cup Tasting and Barista competitions, which took place in November, have been announced by National Coordinator Jeanne Gennar.

Bart Van Sanden of Antwerp trade house Efico triumphed in the Cup Tasting, to become Belgian national champion.

The country's best barista is Detlev Battiau (below, right, with SCAE Board Director Joseph Smith and runner-up Vicky Wuyts). Battiau, who works for Viva Sara in Kortrijk, also won the prize for the best signature drink.

Second place in the Barista Championship went to Vicky Wuyts, representing Rombouts. Her cappuccino was named the best in the competition as well.

Jeroen Clauwers from Lavazza came third in the barista championships.

Michel Veneziano, of Caffe Kimbo, produced the best espresso of the competition, the judges decided.
